I hope I can explain this right. I have a Brother sewing machine that I am trying to learn to sew on, I have it all together the needle threaded ready to go and when I get going on the sewing the spool of thread goes flying. There are two places for thread to go on the top and it does not stay on either one. The one the pic shows that it should be on has a very short arm for me to stick my spool on. Any tricks? What am I missing? HELP!!
Thanks in advance!!

I tried the first person's advice, even w/pliers the rod did not extend. Could there be an attachment to make it longer?

Did it come with a little felt disc? If not, poke a hole in a tiny piece of felt or wool and put that over the spindle to rest the spool on.

Pull up on the short spindle. It might telescope out and become taller? If not, it must be for winding bobbins only.

Also, study your threading diagram to make sure you don't miss any slots.

To the person who posted after me: do you mean a little plastic cap to go on top? Not to be confused with the tiny felt disc that would go on first and rest underneath.

My Pfaff has the cap but I didn't know Brother had one too.

I also use a Brother's sewing machine and the small thread spindle that holds the spool of thread should have a plastic disc that is placed at the end of the spool of thread after you have put the thread in place. It is larger in size than the diameter of the spool of thread. You might have it but not realize what it is for. Check your owners manual for the pages that show the various parts of the machine to find the picture of the disc, then look in the plastic bags of accessories that came with the machine and find the disc.

Hi,
My name is Maureen, and I just recently joined the group. I have a Brother Embroidery Machine and included in the accessories with this machine are 3 spool caps. They are three different sizes to fit over the end of the spool of thread, depending on the size of the spool, and they hold the thread in place. They say to use them at all times. Maybe your machine should have had some included.

it might have been broken off, i had a singer with a plastic spool holder and it snapped right off, i suggest going to a sewing machine repair shop and finding out what you are missing.
