For the same reason you're traumatized after someone beats the crap out of you, but on a whole more personal level.

Someone you don't know forces you to have sex with them, usually forcibly, under threat of or actual violence. You don't know if they have a disease. You don't know If they're going to kill you after. It's usually somewhere you feel safe, so your whole sense of the world is a safe and happy place is destroyed.

Those are just the ones I can come up with and not think hard about it.

Its okay to ask -- don't pay attention to the people who choose to say ignorant things back.

Its a violent experience where a person has no control over the situation and sometimes the person (because a man or woman can be raped) blames themselves for what happens. Its taking away the self respect, the love, the every day life of a person - that is why they are traumatized after such an event.

Because something happened to your body that you did not want, did not expect and could not prevent or could not prepare for.

1. A serious injury or shock to the body, as from violence or an accident.

2. An emotional wound or shock that creates substantial, lasting damage to the psychological development of a person, often leading to neurosis.

3. An event or situation that causes great distress and disruption.

some one is forcibly taking something from you... somthing you cant get back, something you did not freely give, violating you, how can you not understand the trauma there? It may seem odd that a woman would voluntarily have sex, and then be so offended at someone doing that but it is an unbelievable feeling of ... gosh i dont know how to put this... im probably not doing it well. its like having some one violently take part of your soul...

Think about it ,girl. You have been forced against your will to do something that is very violent and very painful and you are totally helpless. You have lost your sense of self and lost your trust in men. You have been violated in the worse way possible and you wonder why you would be traumatized? Get a grip.

we rape victims are traumatized for many reasons, each person has different things.. the total lack of reasoning with the attacker, the inability to successfully fight the attacker off, the fact that intimacy will never be the same, even with counseling, therapy.. etc... the what if's and the what did i do's are unending.... knowing that relationships are likely to suffer and hoping that your boyfriend ( in my case husband) will not see you as "different".... the nightmares, flashbacks, visions. etc..... sorry.. sounds like im ranting and venting.. not at all intended to be that way..

Because rape is the most violent act towards any human being.
What's worst than Rape ?????????

Rape is loss. Like death, it is best treated with a period of mourning and grief.

To name a few:
- Flashbacks
- Feelings of humiliation and shame
- Feelings of helplessness and powerlessness
- Nightmares about the rape
- Increased washing and/or bathing, because of a feeling of being dirty from the rape
- A soreness of the body. bruising, grazes, cuts etc, depending on the kind of force used during a rape.

Think about it!!

Rape is a violent crime. It's not just sexual.

Don't you think people would be traumatized after being assaulted or beaten up?

Why would rape be any different. Ask any woman who has ever been raped. They will never be able to forget it.

Because it is a very horrible awful thing for anyone to go through and it affects the life of the victim forever.

Because it's a very traumatizing experience to be taken against your will. You feel as though you're completely worthless and weak and have no power over anything. No one should have to go through that. It takes an extremely low and thoughtless person to do something that horrible to someone else.
