Well, you have not cited any particular problem so all I can say is that you must bear in mind that a school is run for the benefit of ALL and not just for the individual.

Accommodations can be made for many and some, such as handicapped issues, are often mandatory.

The principal must set rules that deal with his primary task.. that of providing a safe, secure educational environment and providing the staff and materials that can give the students the education which they are entitled to. After that, it becomes an individual issues and in those cases the principal must often emulate Solomon.

For example, what if YOUR culture or that of your child offends someone else? Who wins?

The only equitable way for a principal to proceed is to establish fair and universal guidelines that apply to all . That means that you can not please all of the people all of the time.

But.. if the action is not discriminatory, then it is prob. within his ability to make that rule.

In the district I work for, there are written, established rules that all administrators are responsible for implementing and following. Public schools must respect a students religious beliefs without bias. Perhaps the principal is unaware of the cultural belief that has been offended. Educating the principal is more helpful that alienating him/her with indignation. If the Principal has been deliberate in their behavior, do go to the districts superintendent or school board. Approach them with concern, not fury and you will get better results.
