Oh honey, it's this stupid superficial society we are unfortunately living in now. I do the shopping for my elderly parents, and they always want me to buy them ice cream, candy, and other fattening things, and people look at my shopping cart and give me a disapproving look, and yes, I have a few pounds to lose (about 20) but I find that SO rude. You shouldn't have to put up with that nonsense. Unfortunately, as I mentioned before, this society is totally obsessed with very skinny people. I live in S. California, where it's extremely bad to be full figured. I'm considered *lazy* *not disciplined* - but the thing is, I am never going to be a size 0! The most desirable size for a woman in L.A. now is 00. That's impossible, for me at least. I'm 5'9" and 140lbs. I consider myself average. But back to your question, and problem, the next time someone gives you that look, stare them right down, and hold out whatever it is you're eating, and say, "Want a bite?", sarcastically. For some reason, the public thinks it's totally okay to stare at overweight people like they don't have any feelings, they're just objects to be judged. The same thing for pregnant women- strangers go up to them all the time, and want to offer advice or even have the cheek to put their HAND on their belly! I bet you're a really nice man. Either ignore the ignorant people who stare, or respond with a clever retort of your own. That should make them shut up. Good luck!

Well i`ll tell you something that happened just the other day. I was in a cafe with a friend and this fat woman came in - when i say fat i mean absolutely ginormous - she could hardly get thru thr door - i`m not kiddin. She must have been a regular coz she didn`t order - after about ten minutes they fetched her this tray - not plate, tray - and it was just full of fried eggs, ton of bacon, maybe half a dozen sausages, fried bread - all the works - including pile of toast. I know you`ll think i`m making this up - i`m not. My friend and i were just gobsmacked - and i must admit i couldn`t help looking at the woman all the time - my eyes just kept going back to her. Then this bunch of workmen came in - and - well you can imagine - they stared at first - then they nudged one another and were grinning - then laughing and - well they were pretty quiet about it but they were all just laughing their heads off - then that made us laugh - and we had to leave. But the fat woman - i tell you - she didn`t give a monkeys ! She tucked in and her eyes never left that tray ! I have nothing against fat people - each to their own - but that was funny - really funny - something you expect to see on dom jolly.......
So....i don`t know if that answers your question but i`m sayin no more !

Umm lets not be so judgemental. Lol I look at people funny all the time.. they look at me the same way with reason ha. I'm a skinny little twig with a strange fashion sense and erm... maybe too much personality. I'm sure they were just dreaming of whatever it was that you were eating. Lmao I probably would have asked for a bite.

Because they are starving and through lack of confidence or illness they would rather be thin instead of take nourishment.
My friend went through the stage of not eating because she was desperate to lose weight and she said a lot of the time she was jealous when she saw other people eating.
She was 5ft 6" and weighed just over 6stone but thankfully she is fine now and a healthy 9stone 4ounces,it's great to have her back.

I know, I know. I hate eating in public, that even means at home when I have visitors or at work when I'm having my bait.

I've even had comments about being fat when I've been eating a salad, which I do a lot with it being my favourite food. For the record because I don't like potatoes, I never eat crisps and chips and I hate fried food as a whole because its too greasy.

It gets on your nerves, doesn't it?

B/c skinny people think that fat people shouldn't eat probably....i would just ignore it. They might think that everyone should be skinny...which is wrong, everyone is different, and everyone should exept that. Its ok if your big or small, but don't feel upset when someone is starring at you when you are eating. Maybe they like what your eating and want some...lol....but if they just keep looking at you, be brave and ask what their problem is....b/c i bet the skinny people are all just stupid plastic barbies (or kens..lol) that want EVERYONE to look alike, which is not right, because everyone is different. Good luck!

People like to judge others. It makes them feel more secure about their own shortcomings. You may like to eat, but I'd bet most people have far worse vices that you'll probably never see in public. Should you be concerned about your food intake, maybe, only if it leads to health problems, or if you want to change your image. Personally, I wouldn't even put to much energy into worrying about it. People can be jerks...always been that way, probably always will. Do what makes you happy I say.

Ive been fat and noticed the glares also. I would also feel guilty about eating!! How sick is that??!! I am now slimming down and more confident about eating in public. But if I am staring it means I want what you are eating or I just want you!!

If you're not so self-conscious & paranoid and staring at skinny people while you're eating, then how do you know that they're staring at you? Most likely, skinny people or people in general are just wondering where you bought your food from because it looks yummy.
