When I was a teen, I'm not sure how old, exactly, between 13 and 15, I had this wonderful dream. A real dream, as in I went to bed and had a lovely dream all night long.

The next day my mum was getting ready to go out and I went to her dresser with her and while she was putting in some make up I asked her if dreams ever came true.

I know I sounded like a little girl, but, even though I was a teen, and most of the time I wanted to be treated as a growing up, I was still a kid, you know?

But she said no, that dreams are just dreams.

I know she was right, dreams are dreams, but I also know that when i asked that I wasn't only asking about my nightly dream, I meant a lot more and she totally missed that.

I didn't get mad at my mum or anything, but i felt pretty let down for the longest time because she didn't give me hope.

Through all my life she gave me hope, and supported me in many ways, and this single memory isn't what I remember the most about her, now that she's no longer with me.

But as a bad thing to tell me, I think this is it.

When I was 11 years old my mother asked me if I was a lesbian. This was because I had a best friend and we chatted on the phone every day after school, and wanted to hang out at the mall on the weekend. You know, all the typical things you do when you're 11 and you have a best friend.

This was 40 years ago, and I had to look the word up. I had no idea what she was talking about.

Of course, 5 years later when I had a boyfriend, I was informed I was a whore because he kissed me good night. Nothing else, just a quick kiss on the mouth.

My parents were VERY controlling!! Then wondered why I wouldn't introduce them to my friends or tell them what I did at school. (*lol*)

The worst thing was when I was little girl my Mom told me that she just read in the paper that Santa was killed when his sleigh crashed. She could have told me a much better way that Santa didn't really exist.
