They are all great schools and will all be great for premed. I would say that Duke is a bit better for premed than Berkeley, which is a little better than UCSD.

US News ranks them as #9, #21 and #38. The difference between #38 and #9 might just be enough to make a difference.

Of the three universities, Duke is the only one that actually has a medical school. This could give it an additional edge.

I have degrees from both Duke and Berkeley. I loved everything about Duke. I loved much about UCB -- but absolutely hated the town of Berkeley. I've seen UCSD -- and it is in one of the most beautiful places on earth.

The good news is -- you can't go wrong.

Yes, Duke is worth the extra expense. The campus is beautiful, too.

Duke! That's where I want to go for premed and pediatric neurology.

Sometimes, you can't look at the cost of the school. Look at it as an investment that you are putting into yourself. Look at what the school can offer you! Will the people in that environment be welcoming? Is it close to things I can enjoy with friends and family?

Good Luck.
