The "ground hog" is a rodent known as a "marmot". "Prairie dogs" are rodents, too. Both animals are largly vegetarian, eating grass, clover, wildflowers and maybe a grasshopper every now and then. Both live in burrows they dig. "Prarie dogs", as the name suggests, live in open grasslands. "Ground hogs" are larger and prefer woods, perhaps this is why another name for this animal is "wood chuck". In the western U.S., Marmots can be found living on the sides of mountains.
