I play a Bb clarinet and a Eb alto saxaphone but seem to get different answers when trying to find out which key to play in playing the same tune.If playing a tune on Bb clarinet in D major , which key would i play it in using my alto sax.

Logically you would use the key of A

I play alto sax too!The C on a clarinet is the G on an alto sax so you just go back to whatever note you need. Hope it helps. By the way if you pick me 4 best answer, where can i find the notes to Happy Birthday?

SKC is right, the key is A, not G like everyone else is saying. The concert pitch (flutes, trombones, piano, etc) would be C, but the alto and baritone saxophones would be in A.

It is the key of A. D on a Bb instrument is C concert. C concert on an Eb instrument is A.

You would play it in the key of G.
