Was listening to this song, and wondering if anyone has ever felt like this? I mean the bittersweet taste of life, as it goes on, and somewhere you find yourself breezing through it, someone is there once, and then they are gone. You remember the moments, and you go through long lost loves, you rummage through an atticful of memories. There is an apparent calm over you, but inside, your heart is caught in a whirlwind of emotions you cannot seem to reconcile with. You hopelessly travel through your past to find the answers in your present. Why does it happen to me? Sometimes it just gets to me.

This was the experience I went through after I saw the movie Brokeback Mountain the first time a few months ago. I started reexamining all of my relationships, almost relationships and even chance but meaningful encounters, all without any conscious effort on my part to bring them to mind- just all of a sudden, one was there in the spotlight. When I was done agonizing and crying over that one, the next one stepped into the spotlight, and so it went.
I think it's part of growing older, and a sort of process like reorganizing your closets or doing spring cleaning. Having just gone through the process, I feel as if I'll never agonize over any of that again. It was what it was, it had meaning in my life, I've accepted that, gained whatever there was to gain from that, and I'm moving on.

I like grapes.

:o)
But seriously, I try not to dwell too much on the past. Especially in the 80s and early 90s, there is too much death and heartbreak there due to AIDS.

However, sometimes I get surprised by the people who reappear in dreams. I guess we have no control over that.

It happens to all of us at one time or another..with me, when I am depressed, I trudge through the past good times. When I am happy, I am in the present. I think this is very normal for all of us. But, I do not let my journey into the past fill me with remorse...does no good, for, at least, I cannot change the past. Enjoy the memories..that is what they are for.

I've tried not to look too deeply recently. It sometimes disturbs me what I will find. Have you felt a loathing for another person, only to look at yourself and realize that makes you no better than they? You sometimes wish there was a way out of the vicious cycle.

I think we've all been there. I think it's just one of those "rite of passage" things we all go through as we get older, or at least wiser and more in tune with ourselves and what we want out of life. I mean in order to know where you're going, we most often times look at where we've been right?

At least I know historians do that.

"Windmills of your mind", I believe, is a reference to Don Quiote tilting with imaginary giants which were really windmills. He was viewed as quite insane but was really a champion of the truth.

Personally, I think some people have splinters in the windmills of their mind.
