my wife and I want to have children but she was told she has a large fibroid and that if she does become pregnant that she will most likely have a miscarriage becuase its so big.
they are saying she can have an operation to remove them but the chances of getting pregnant either won't happen or will, my question is this, has anyone had this done? were you able to get pregnant?

I had fibroid tumors that caused heavy bleeding. I had a couple different procedures done, but there was no relief from my period. The doctor I was going to told me I would have to have a hysterectomy, but since I was only 24 years old, that was not an option to me. So I went for a second opinion. Best thing I ever did. I found a doctor that was able to take out my fibroid and leave everything intact. Before the surgery, he told me that I might not be able to have children. It wasn't something he would be able to predict or control, but after the surgery, he said everything went really well and didn't see any reason why I couldn't have children. I still don't know if I can have children since I haven't tried, but hopefully someday when I'm ready I will be blessed with them.

If I were you, I'd have your wife get a second opinion. And hopefully you get a doctor that was as skilled as mine was. (If you're from the Pittsburgh area, I could give you a referral.)

I had two fibroids described as Mickey Mouse ears near the entrance to my fallopian tubes. My ob/gyn put me into medical menopause with Lupron. The lack of estrogen shrinks the fibroids. I got pregnant within 3 months and had a normal pregnancy with no problems. My fibroids were external. I don't know if internal fibroids are different. My ob/gyn told me internal can make it much more difficult to get pregnant and carry to term. Hope this helps!

Fibroids can be removed without removing the uterus. However, not too many gynecologists do this. Most will recommend a hysterectomy (complete removal of the uterus).

Ask to be referred to a gynecologist who is skilled in removing fibroids without doing a hysterectomy. The chances of getting pregnant do not diminish after this kind of surgery.

my mother had them, and one was really large. See if there is a way they can shrink them first with meds then do the surgery. I know they have used the depo shots with some success.( most fibroids are due to hormones) Good Luck, hope it helps.

You will need to remove it. If She doesn't then, she won't have children for sure - also there is a chance of Fibroind turning into cancer if left there to grow.

If you want children, you gotta remove it. If I understand correctly, it's only about a 20 mins procudure.
