The only way to be certain is to find the Probate file in the court where it's being probated. If you look in Dallas, for example, and don't find it, that doesn't mean it isn't being probated in San Antonio.

The correct place for the Will to be probated is in the court that has jurisdiction over the last residence of the decedent. That doesn't mean someone wouldn't enter it into probate in the wrong place, but it does tell you the most likely place to look.

Find that court, call them on the phone and ask if they have an open probate file for the person you are looking for. They probably will tell you that much. Anything else and you may have to go and read the file.

Inquire at the probate court in the county where the decedent resided at time of death. A lawyer can assist you with this or you can call the court.
