As in has just about everything that could be original (NOTHING like it before) already been done ? Books , films, music, fine art etc all seems to be derived from something else that's similar. I know it all comes down to interpretation of the work. But I guess I'm asking can anything truly innovative ever be created again ?

as long as we humans exist, there will always be some fresh, innovative ideas. we are where we are after building on the ideas of others before us who also built on ideas before them. hence originality is relative in this sense. originality is not dead, not dying.

Yes, Originality has been dead since the time of the ancient Greeks ( some would say dead since Shakespeare )
