Eragon! That covers everything you mentioned. It's a wonderfully gripping book and movie.

LOTR, or Lord of the Rings, doens't have dragons but plenty of elves and romance and adventure.

Try the Enchanted forest chronicles, by Patricia Wrede. The first is "Dealing with Dragons".
And, if you haven't read it already, read the Narnia series, by C.S. Lewis. The first is "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" (the movie came out about a year ago).

Everyone always remembers "Lord of the Rings" but forgets "The Hobbit." I always like it more. It's shorter, more of a straightforward plot, has a fight with a dragon and the riddles-in-the-dark. I would says it's an overall easier read.
