I would go to a bank and tell them why you have the 100 dollar bill, and ask them to test it for you. It is better to be safe then sorry. If you spend it, a lot of places now a days have the test markers that they use on larger bills, and you can get charged with trying to spend a counterfit bill...not a good idea! Just please be on the safe side on this one.

They didn't have the shadow pictures in 100 dollar bills in 1988. Hold it under a black light, the paper used to print money on does not glow white under black light. The red and blue hairs are a good sign it is real. If you want to know for sure take it into any bank.

Actually, the special pens do not disappear on a real bill. It goes on brown, but if it changes color it is a fake.

if you know who you got it from and it does turn out to be counterfit, they will try to trace it back, but being that the bill is so old it's doubtful it's counterfit. Like answer one, if you really doubt it, take it to your local bank.

Buy one of those little markers made especially for that and check it. If it stays black it's fake, if the mark disappears it's real.

Sounds real to me. Some of those safety features weren't introduced until later.

If you light it on fire it should burn a deep red, if it's orange it was fake!

I don't think it really matters... Just go somewhere and get change for it, no one really cares.
