the first one's asking you where the colonies expanded in what areas. What was around that made it so much of and ideal place that the colonies would grow around there for example the land was very rich, clean water and so on.
2. what was in the way of the english colonies. on the west like a river, ocean bridge. what kind of barrier.

I'm not answering these for you, but here's the general idea:
What geographic feature (geographic: landmark, land formation) supported the rapid growth of the English colonies in North America?
What mountain range (HINT!!) acted as the western barrier to the original 13 colonies?

1. The colonies had to expand at a point of ease such as rivers, lakes and oceans .
They grew quickly because they had easy access to transportation, to shipped in goods, and life sustaining water.
2. The geographic barrier could only be the Rocky Mountains/The Great Divide which geographically caused immense hardship to cross. The Deserts of the south west were also a hindrance to travel. Lacking easy access to water. Water being the key to sustain all life.

the first question is a good one, and it's not just specific to english colonies, what they are asking is what land/water feature helped settlements grow, and the second question, simply put what hindered westward expansion of the english colonies, both of these questions can be easily answered by looking at a map

Question one is asking about things like mountains, rivers, valleys, coast, etc.
Question two is asking about the same thing, its asking what is blocking the west of the colonies.
Geographical features are most always referring to the land and natural things like what I mentioned above.
