I had this discussion with my girl friend. We were going somewhere nice and I wanted her to wear pantyhose or stockings. She said that it was not in fashion and it was too hot to wear them.

I live on the east coast and although pantyhose and stockings are common here especially in offices, I have been on business trips elsewhere and notice that women who work in corporate offices usually wear hosiery. There is a growing trend for younger women to wear stockings and hold-ups instead of pantyhose, which the older women seem to prefer.

I will say, on the east cost a woman is not considered fully dressed without stockings on, when wearing dress or business clothes, and I agree with that notion. Sun dresses are one thing, but business suits should be accompanied by stockings or pantyhose.

That's just an excuse to be lazy. Pantyhose and stockings are not so out of fashion and uncomfortable. Although I usually wear hosiery anyway I would think if it makes you happier to see me dressed up a little why not?

On the West Coast - yeah its mostly no hose or even just jeans. But IMHO, most women shouldn't go with the bare leg look because they just don't have nice legs to begin with.

Yes. Women who wear pantyhose only live on the East Coast. They were moved there by the Bush Administration to prevent terrorism.

Your girlfriend is right - it is no longer a fashion necessity to wear pantyhose with a skirt or dress, and most younger women don’t do it. And it is very hot. It’s more common to see colored hose on someone wearing a dark business suit that’s got a skirt.

Most young, fashion-conscious women will rarely, if ever, wear hose.

No, of course not. I live in S. California, and lots of women (working women in offices and corporate jobs, etc) all wear pantyhose -unless they're wearing nice slacks. I've known women that even wear pantyhose underneath their slacks so they can wear their high heels with more comfort. But overall, my opinion of pantyhose is this- uncomfortable, hot, scratchy, they practically rip once you try to put them on, they're horrible. I wish at least someone would invent a pantyhose that never ripped! (we've put a man on the moon but never created a ripless pantyhose, what's the deal with that?) Your girlfriend is right. Wherever you were going, she already knew that stockings or pantyhose wouldn't be right for the occasion.

Dressing classically never goes out of fashion and is not dependant on the weather. We East Coast girls know this and dress accordingly. No matter how good your legs look, if you go somewhere dressy, you dress all the way. Not doing so is like putting on all your makeup and not adding lipcolor :) Just my 2 cents worth:)

So sorry, I agree with your girl friend, panty hose are hot and uncomfortable, (apparently designed by a man for a woman to wear) lol I used to wear panty hose in the 80's....and I wonder what was I thinking! I will never wear hose again!
