I read before that most black people had at least 20% white in them alone. Not counting all the other things. Like when all those stars (Oprah Winfrey, Quincy Jones, T.D. Jakes, Whoopi Goldberg, Mae Jemison, Chris Tucker, and Henry Louis Gates)
they all had something else in them, so aren't they mixed? how come they don't say they are mixed. really all black people should say they are mixed. but they do not. and if i was to say i am black some people will be like no you are mixed. but they don't call themselves mixed, how come i do.

Oprah Winfrey- be 89% black, 8% Native American, 3% East Asian (researchers said that Native American ancestral traces show up here too), and 0% European.

Quincy Jones- 66% black, 34% European, and 0% Native American. Given family stories, the music producer was surprised that he had no Native American ancestors, and shocked at the high percentage of European ancestry (the average for black Americans is 20%).

Whoopi Goldberg- be 92% black, 8% European, and 0% Native American

Mae Jemison- 84% black, 13% East Asian, and 3% Native American.

Chris Tucker- 83% black, 10% Native American, and 7% European.

Henry Louis Gates- 50% black, 50% European, and 0% Native American.

Like Quincy Jones, his Y chromosome test revealed only European ancestry (in common with British and Dutch males). His mitochondrial DNA test also revealed European ancestry (in common with French and Irish)

Most all people are not 100% of any one ethnic group. Yes, Black is a term to identify with culture here in American states, or a term that was *****, colored, then Black, now African American and whatever admixture. More than likely after more time progresses more African Americans become even more mixed and diverse with interracial couples having children and so on. African American not born in Africa are very much a mix of different backgrounds and cultures. Africa is a continent not a small state or town. Africa is diverse, and has many different cultures in it ,and many different languages. All Africans are not all only Black either. We all do not come from the same cities, towns, and states, and countries. If you ever pick up a book on the true historical diaspora of Africans, and Black peoples you will definitely see that no African American not natively born from Africa is 100% African.

race is a man made category anyway. So every man should feel free to make his own.

Some might say African American society is more communal and there is more of a need to identify with the group.

Also, not all African American are of mixed race 20% is the average. When you consider how low that average is and how many Blacks are 50% mixed race that leaves an awful lot around the .000 or nearly that.

the only reason you asked this question is because ELPASO GIRL asked this question about whites. my question to you is why did you ask this about black and not HISPANICS. even if you did assume that Elpaso Girl is hispanic because of the screen name, it would have been more appropriate. Your question just shows that you are truely a freaking BIGOT. GO get a life somewhere, anywhere.

No, not even close to being true. Many blacks in America are often mixed, but there are more immigrants from Africa everyday that are not mixed with anything.

You say you are mixed because you are likely 50% something and 50% something else. Or even 75/25, but if you have had someone 3 generations ago that was of another race, it gets too complicated to do the math. I am 12% this and 8% that and 35% this and ...

Say what you want, but if you had two parents that called themselves black, you are likely black. And if you had one that called themselves one thing and another that called themselves something different, you are likely mixed.

You know.........be who you are!! All of this %%%% CRAP is BS! No one is going to look at you and assume, "oh you must be 85% white, 10% European, and 5% Irish! Get over all of this unnecessary labeling of race!

Because if you took a little more time in your research you would discover that the "black gene" is the prodominat gene.

Here is a statistic for you..... I am less than "45%" black and I've been called a N****R my whole life.... so what's your point?

There are a lot of black people who claim to be mixed with others things... but this is highly untrue. Two and three generations of black will automatically cancel out whatever relations happed with a white person long time ago. We just like to run around spreading that lie to justify overly ethnic features.
