The 17" WSXGA+ BrightView Widescreen (1680x1050) is better than the other monitor, and I say that because it has a higher resolution.

It depends on what you want.

The higher resolution is going to get more information on the screen at any one time. So if you have multiple widows open you can spread them out and see all of them at once.

However, putting more information into the same size screen is going to make it smaller, so if you have a hard time reading small text and recognising small icons you may be better off with the lower resolution screen. (I suspect that this would be cheaper too!)

Whichever you get, run it at the maximum (native) resolution, otherwise it will have to scale the image up and it will look blurry and out of focus.

That would be your choice, try both screens and then decide for yourself. You might not even see any difference, in the screens. Pick the one that you like the best, because sometimes when you get advice from another person, you might not even like it, when you get home, and start to use it. Then if you choose, then you only have yourself to blame..Good Luck..
