To avoid an infection, just get up and go to the bathroom. This clears out the urinary tract. Then, go lay down again on your left side for at least 10 minutes. Enough sperm will have passed the urinary opening and can continue swimming up through the cervix (if you're lucky). :)

Good luck! :)

Okay, if you're concerned you could lay in bed for 5 minutes or so, but then get up and pee right away (prevents bladder infections) and wash up. If you want to know when you're ovulating, get a hold of Toni Weschlers book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" It will tell you if and when you're ovulating and if you're luteal phase is long enough for implantationto occur - and it's cheaper than going to the doc to find all of that out. It's also WAY cheaper than OPK's - they cost $25-$35 bucks and only have 5 to 7 test strips. If you have a long cycle, you could end up needing more than 7 strips. That can get expensive! Goodluck!

Just want to correct some mis-information in an above post. Not every woman ovulates days 13 through 15. It's very important that you not assume anything. Check out the book I recommended. I consistantly ovulate day 17/18 because I have a long cycle.

Well first of all,if you got an infection just because you didn't wash after making love, then you need to go to the Dr's & find out if your infection free & why you might have gotten an infection. There are infections that will still be there at birth & can be passed on to the baby during labor,so go have your Dr check you for any infections & ask her these questions. But make sure your healthy & infection free first, not only for your sake, but for the sake of the yet to be concieved child.

Well, are you really ready to be a mom? I won't get into all that. But, to answer your question, I had to ask my doctor that, because I'm allergic to sperm. So, I had to ask her how long I actually need to leave it in there in order to get pregnant. She said she wasn't really sure! Maybe 15 minutes? So, I layed in bed after with my hips propped up on a pillow for 15 minutes, then got in the bath.

It worked!

Make sure you know when you ovulate, so you'll only have to subject yourself to this once a month or maybe twice, if you're prone to infections.

ewww, yucky, the sperm has to be inside of you, washing the outside won't kill the sperm, if it is on the outside, it doesn't have a chance anyway. Just lie still, I know that if I get right up sometimes some leaks out ( I know too much info, but it is true) and just pray. Also there are products that help the sperm move on up where it is supposed to, I think it is called preseed, I read about it on another question. Look it up, it can't hurt. Best of luck

Wash. You will get pregnant regardless of if you wait twenty minutes or two days to wash yourself. When I got pregnant the first time, I didn't mean to and I always ran to the bathroom and washed right after we did the deed. It didn't stop the sperm from getting up there. Not washing is going to do exactly what it did to you. If you think it will help...elevate for twenty minutes, but then go get cleaned up.

The first time I got pregnant with my now 5 yr old sweetie I had tried to wash myself thoroughly but I was blessed.Sperm is already traveling inside you when it comes out of your partner so it all will happen when it has to.

A friend of mine was having difficulty conceiving. She quit her job on the theory that the stress of work was making conception more difficult. About 10 months later - a baby girl! I would say remove as much stress from your life as possible. And of course do it like porn stars the week before and after anticipated ovulation. Quantity quantity quantity!

Not washing(although do not douche obviously!), standing up, walking around, going pee, none of this will have ANY affect on conception. It will only lead to what you got for it. Sperm travels incredibly fast adn what is going to make it where it needs to go has already made it by the time you get your breathing back under control lol

Good luck!

The best thing to do right after your honey ejaculates into you is to hold your legs up. Not washing yourself is not a good thing to do. I don't know who told you that, but they told you wrong. Hold your legs in the air for 15 minutes. Also, make sure you have sex the 13th, 14th, and 15th day after your period. Those are the best days to try and concieve. If you can, try not having sex until those three days. Good luck. It may take time, but if it is meant to happen, it will!
