I was in a car accendent and was hit on the passenger rear side. I had my car fixed (which took two weeks) but when I picked it up and drove it it shook when I pressed on the breaks. I did not have this problem before the accident. So I brought it back to the mechanic. He tells me the drum was put on backwards. Is this even possible? What other possibilities would make the car to shake? *Caviler-2004*

it is not possible to install a brake drum any other way than the right way-if the shake came at freeway speeds when the brake was applied-that would be front rotors out of round-if the rear drums were warped,then the vehicle would kind surge when brakes are applied

Your brake drums were put on backwards? That is impossible to do even on the front. Is the car shaking during braking or driving? It is probably the alignment is out if you were in an accident have it checked. But as for your drum being on backward the mechanic is full of bull as that cannot be done because then you would not be able to put the wheel on. Also have the the axle's checked starting with the front as it would cause more of a problem

No, it is not possible to put the drum on backwards. If a drum is warped it can cause the brake pedal to pulsate and possibly cause a shake. If the car only shakes when you apply the brakes it is probably a brake problem but could also be caused by worn parts on the front end but that should have shown up before the accident.

Lets rephrase the question kinda, right drum on the left side and left on the right--OK If the passenger side(initial impact) drum was slightly bent, then put on the driver side I Might even call it backwards!! Even thought is is not correct, call it reversed brake drum, if that at best.. Anyway The repair shop should have both drums turned-should be acceptable on an 04, and that should fix your problem if (Nothing was Bent) . If this does not fix the problem I would contact your repair shop, as they might of missed a bent rear trailing arm..

No way possible. The drums may be warped. bent axle, and did they check to see if the sub frame is straight? Depending on how hard you were hit, it could have knocked the sub frame crooked. It is not right, so take it back and don't accept it until it is. After what the mechanic told you, I would want another mechanic working on it and not the first one. Talk to the supervisor or owner of the shop, and tell him your concerns, raise hell, till it is right.

I'm not sure what you mean by backwards, but no...in the classic sense, brake drums nor rotors can be put on backwards, you wouldn't be able to put the wheels on...

It is much more likely that one of your suspension "link arms" got bent. That will cause your car to "track" wrong, and shake...

Drums can not be put on wrong but brake shoes can. there is a trailing shoe & a leading shoe on most cars & trucks. which if put on wrong can cause the drums to warp. causing vibrations.
