You did the right thing.

I was driving down a street when some kids threw a rock at my car, the damage was a big dent on the front right door. I turned right at the next corner and back tracked to the house they ran into.
Dad was there and called the boys out, oh there was the kid with the yellow t-shirt just the way I described it to dad.
I was going to call the PD but dad talked me out of it, saying he will take care of the damage.
The next week when I returned with the damage estimate, the family had moved and could not be found anywhere.

Moral of the story. . .report it asap to the PD and don't show compassion to vandalist hooligans like those

You were not wrong. The cops are underfunded and can't answer all calls because there just aren't enough officers or resources to do that. Instead of telling you that, they came up with a stupid answer that actually put them at risk of you filing a complaint (which you should do) with the chief of police and/or your town council.

If the kids were throwing rocks at your car, then you had every right to call the police and the police are legally obligated to respond. But they aren't going to pass up going to a bank robbery or domestic violence call to help save your car because it is a matter of priorities.

Your best bet for protecting your car is to talk to the kids' parents in addition to filing a police report (that the police should take from you even if they cannot respond to your call). If damage is done to your car, you can also report that to the police but also pursue having the kids parents pay for it or taking them to court to make them pay for it.

Also, next time there's an anti-tax measure on your local or state ballot, remember that if the police and fire departments are not properly funded, then your possessions are not going to be protected by them.

No it's not wrong but in most cases the police need evidence. If you yelled at them or some such thing you could be sued.

Indentify just one kid that is doing this or might. Go and speak with the parent....... if you feel like you don't want to be alone there are ways to have a cop go with you. Once the parents realize that this could cost them a lot of money I would bet it would all stop.

This is the way it is, go to their parents who may not know and tell them that their precious little ones are doing this. If they still do it then once some damage gets done you can either sue the parents or your insurance company to have it fixed. I have a rider on my policy for vandalism just in case. If no damage has been done then that is about all you can do and stop letting this worry you. I do think you should go politely and tell the folks though. They may not know so don't be so defensive with them, just tell them what you know and tell them you thought they were good parents and would want to know so that they could stop it before more came of it.

I think youre right. I wouldve called the cops on them too. Telling the parents is a good idea, but why do that first? You may not even know the parents or who they are. And its not like you can hit them or throw stuff at them. Little punks.

Maybe record them doing it, and if damage occurs, bring the tape to the parents and make the parentspay for damage, since its on tape and parents are responsible for their kids.

My question is what did u do to them kids in the first place. if nothing n they are just rotten(it does occur) then get a video camera and place in view of ur car and enough room to capture the person throwing rocks and bring it to the family if u get their kids on tape and tell them unless they pay the damages ur takin the video to the cops.
My neighbor had a kid break his window with a rock, so he put a camera n caught a lil 12 year old girl throwin the rocks n he found her parents n they paid.
n afterwards u gota urself a camera

I would talk to the parents of the children first. Tell them that the kids are throwing rocks at your brand new car. If they have any sense at all they will crack down on their kids. If they still continue to throw the rocks, take a video from inside your house and show it to the police.

first subject you probably did incorrect is killing your self and shortening the time you have with your spouse and teenagers by smoking. quit for them. Throwing rocks is a foul thought. next time basically stomp on the floor somewhat no longer straightforward or throw your cigarette on the homestead. He perhaps wouldn't have called yet what could you have completed? your son basically threw a rock at your place. and he's the dad. he gets to end the conversation. no longer you. appreciate and honoring those above you will continually carry approximately fulfillment. edit: and you're greater helpful than Hooters. i does no longer say quit, yet do no longer settle for that.

That's just wrong. Call the parents and tell them to keep their bratty kids off your property. I won't hit a kid, but once a little boy in our neighborhood was throwing dirt clods through our back door which was open and my husband went out and busted his butt. I thought we might get sued, but we didn't. That worked for us. He told them that when kids misbehaved while on our property that they would be treated just as if they were our boys. They were.

Call the Da's office. What that cop or cops said was unacceptable conduct. By them saying that they were violating at least 5 code of conduct rules.
