There is a "many worlds interpretation" to quantum mechanics that states that all possibilities exist at the same time in a continuum of different universes. In that view, you'd simply experience two different time lines where different things happened. You really need to watch Dr Who.

You got confused in yourself. Look.....
If you have done a mistake and you want to revert back everything then you will go back in time and just rectify it and then return back so that your mistake doesn't exist. It is not like that you go back in time and then you have to live again till the present because for others it is present. But rectifying your mistake in the past can affect other peoples life and it creates a havoc in the world, as everybody have already accepted it.

Well the first time you go back the mistake wasn't fixed yet so once its done and you come back to the present things will be so different for you anyway -- haven't you seen the Back to the Future trilogy?

You would still have knowledge of the original mistake. Even though you went back and corrected it the original knowledge is still available only to you.

there are some events that would not be able to be changed, because they would stop you from building the time machine in the first place, and then if you never made the time machine, you couldnt stop that event.. a very vicious circle,

but minor events could be changed that have no effect on making the time machine in the future.

So you go back and correct it, when you get 'present' again there's nothing wrong so why would you worry?
