I see Blacks going to white colleges alot but at most black colleges it's like 1-2% whites. You claim that you aren't racist but you are scared to go to white colleges because they're predominately black. That sounds racist to me.

Black colleges even give the whites that do go there full tuition, plus it seems like the blacks suck up to the white students there. Heck I know blacks that would go agianst me for a white person (whether it's right or wrong). Many Black Colleges rank higher than white colleges in academics.

So why not go to a black college? 80% of Black colleges have less crime than white Colleges.

My point is don't complain about reverse discrimination unless you've tried every avenue (including black colleges) an all have turned you down.

I don't care what Colleges white people go to, again my point is to argue, "Why are WHITES saying REVERSE discrimination" when they could easily go to a HISTORICALLY black college.

Maybe some of you forgot about the segregation laws before the 1970's. That is why the colleges are "HISTORICALLY" black. I call them black colleges because it's predominately black (this didn't change because whites didn't want to segregate)
Just like I call White Colleges because they are predominately white.

I often wondered the same thing. It's crazy because a white person can get tons of grants for attending a Historically Black Colege or University (HBCU). A white person would really have no problems socially (unless they were racist) at a black school. And if you pick the right program at the right school, you would be getting one heck of an education. Student to teacher ratios are better, and there is definetly a sense of school spirit. HBCU's no matter what the student body size is, have a sense of family. Also the professors there are there because they care about what they do, not because it is convienent.

There are no "white colleges." There are colleges that demographically have a higher percentage of Caucasian students. I don't know about the majority of the country, but I looked at your website, and had never heard of the schools listed for my homestate of Texas. The only black college that I had known of prior to looking at that was Hampton University, and I did look into it for further educaltion (FYI, I have not applied to any schools for this yet). Perhaps this is more of an issue of some of these colleges investing in getting there names out there more.
All of the schools that I went to were very diverse, having large numbers of black, white, Hispanic, and Indian students. I enjoyed the diversity.
Personally, I am not afraid to attend a black college. I would feel an amount of nervousness that other students there would resent my attendance. I don't think that this is racist, because look at your question. You wonder why the percentage of white individuals in black colleges is so low, but express latent resentment that whites who attend are given favorable treatment.
By the way, if so many white people attended, would the school still be able to call itself a black college? Would you as a black woman interested in historically black colleges want to attend one with a student population that is 25%, 50%, 75% Caucasian? Or would you be angry about it?
If what you are really angry about is claims of reverse discrimination, then why not pose the question differently rather that making it about colleges?
You might think me a racist, but when I was 18 the thought of doing an Internet search for "black colleges Texas" never occurred to me because (1) Sadly, when I was in high school the Internet was just starting to gain momentum (2) I would not have thought in my 18 year old mind that a college that defines itself as a "black college" would be interested in my attendence (3) I researched what colleges close to me had good accademic programs for my major, and I did not get results of any of the schools on this website.
Was it a Freudian slip that in your question you say that "this didn't change because whites didn't want to segregate?" Don't you mean integrate?

Uhhh.. I've never heard of a black college, but i could be wrong.

Now, If that college had the program i wanted, I wouldn't have a problem with going there.

On the other hand, in todays day and age, anything labeled 'black', generally excludes whites. Black tv stations, black music awards, black miss america, black magazines.. those are all black-people only. You've got to give people a break for assuming that a black college wouldn't accept anyone but black people.

plus, you're completely forgetting to take geographic localion into account. My college only has 1% minorities.. but thats because we're in maine, right up agianst the canadian border. There are no minorites to go here! There isn't anything racist about that!

Before the 1964 Brown v. Board of Education ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court which outlawed racial segregation of public educational institutions, African American college students weren't allowed to attend white colleges and universities. So blacks created their own educational facilities in the segregated south with the intention of educating the African American community.

With that said, there is lot of racial history and, unfortunately a lot of racial strain behind HBCU (historically black colleges and universities). So white people might just be trying to avoid a possible awkward racial situation. Many of the whites who do attend an HBCU were born and raised in predominantly black neighborhoods and feel comfortable around black people and black culture. I don't think that the whites who don't go to black schools are racist, they simple want to go to other schools.

Since when are blacks the only other race? So what if I told you that the reason I don't go to a black college is because I go to an asian college? They may not be the majority, but they are a very highly overrepresented minority, making up at least 30% of the student body.

Typically not much information is provided about black colleges in general media and college information. I don't think it's an issue of be "scared" to go to a black college, it's just not knowing 1) that they exist, 2) how they rank in academic programs and 3) what they have to offer. Many people may just choose not to attend black colleges because they don't think that the schools have what they're looking for. In my college search, I chose not to look at black colleges for one major reason; I wanted as diverse an experience as possible. Black colleges have, of course, mostly black populations, not many Hispanics, whites, Asians or international students. I chose a university that is very diverse and has a very wide variety of students.

Lord Vader, that is very inaccurate. I attend an HBCU and we have many white, asian, indian and black professors. The meaning historically black is derived from the colleges' founding African Americans. That does not mean its a 'black' college now just because the majority of students are black. Its just plain & simple a college!

You are correct, all of the white kids I know that went to predominately black colleges told me that they had no trouble with black students and they also received more aid than blacks students, and when I ask them how did they get the aid, they often say that the college visited their schools during college fairs in high school. To me that is reverse discrimination to blacks.

It's not that most white people don't know about predominately black colleges they just DON'T WANT TO KNOW.

White people don't go to black college BECAUSE OF DISCRIMINATION. Trust me, it is not fun to sit in a class with all black students, because they discriminate against you. And I say that from my own experience. When I went to black school I didn't have a name. They all called me "that white girl", and always made fun of me, about the music I listen to (house), etc... I also noticed that even teachers at those schools were talking differently, and for me personally it was hard to understand sometimes, because I am used to proper English. And it's OK with me, but this is the reason some white people avoid it.
