I am a first soprano and a high school sophomore. On Thursday, May 3, there will be auditions held at my school for the Chamber Ensemble. Usually, only about 9 girls make it into the Chamber Ensemble, and room for first sopranos is limited because they sing a lot of 3 and 4 part music. For the audition, the director would like us to prepare a 1-2 minute song to sing a capella and then do some basic sight-singing. Basically, we can sing anything, but I really don't think I stand a good chance of getting into the choir without the right audition song. Any suggestions?

Get a friend and sing "were breaking free" by high school musical. Easy to sing and in any vocal range. Good luck

If the director is into "heavy" songs, any of the short pieces within Handel's Messiah would do well.

If they are into "light" and "airy", take a new age type of piece (like Enya's Time and Tide) and make it your own.

All of this has to be your call though and based upon your true vocal range.

Go for it!

Summertime from Porgy and Bess - sing it slowly and let your voice soar through the high notes. Don't rush it - it's a chance to show off the voice.

The Bach-Gounod Ave Maria, for the same reasons.
