It's the day set aside for marking and commemorating the sacrifices of those men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice in defense of freedom in Australia and New Zealand. The name comes from the original ANZACs of WWI (the Australia New Zealand Army Corps), who landed at Gallipoli, Turkey on 25 April, 1915.

We Americans would do well to take a moment to remember our fallen antipodean friends and allies. Only one nation has sent troops to fight and sometimes die alongside US troops in every last war the US has fought since 1900. That country is Australia.

Lest we forget.
