Why is lethal injection considered a more humane way of executing someone than putting a bullet through their temple?

A bullet to the brain of sufficient caliber should scramble it before you even comprehend the sound of the explosives. You might hear the gun being ******, though. I'm sure letting the victim's family do it (especially in Texas) would go over great.

Less messy and the lethal injection drugs you first before the poison comes in to lessen the pain of death. Whereas the bullet to the temple.... Besides, who would like to shoot someone as a job?

I Leathal injection is the way we civilized people prevent ourselves from being the savages we KILL. Leathal injection is the best way. It's a sure death, the first time through, and leaves out the help of any "person" from have to take responsibility of "pulling the switch". I for one don't much care how the trash dies, as long as the trash is thrown out. I do feel it is way to ceremonial for those on death row. I for one think it should be carried out in the middle of the night with no witnesses. Pretty simple, when the person hits death row hook them up everynight then one night hit the switch while the pansy crybabies arn't gathered out front with candles and the news paper dosn't know until a hearst pulls out the front gate. The animals don't deserve the tears nor the attention they get.

Some of the answers above are correct, but miss the true answer to this question.

It's because the people who call one method more "humane" are speaking in a secret code, having redefined "humane" to suit their own purposes.

Whereas humane generally means with concern for the feelings and suffering of others, this is not what it means with the death penalty.

The real truth is that a "humane method of execution" means one that is not overly horrifying to watch.

I think it's pretty clear that fewer people could stomach watching someone shot in the head than could watch someone sedated and poisoned.

You people that oppose the death penalty are going about it all wrong. If you want to stop the death penalty, bring back the guillotine and require all jurors, lawyers, and judges involved in the case to attend and observe.

Because they are put to sleep first. and then injected with the heart stopping medication.
After all we must show compasion for a mass murder even though they had none for their victims or the families of the victim
we must be forgiving, and according to the do gooders we should rehabilitate them. I would like for them to let Dahlmer, Manson, Bundy ect to stay in their homes with thier children I mean really if they believe that we should forgive let them practice what they preach

I Say, Hang them in the public square like in the past and let it be televised! I believe the jerking and contortions that the body goes through would be a great deterrent !!!

Actually, their have been new evidences that injection is giving pain to the subject... It was thinked that injection would kill a subject instantly without any pain, while the bullet could take a while to kill its subject thus possibly triggering pain...
This is all bull****, the only way to die without pain is while you sleep!!

Why is it necessary that death be humane - hung by the neck, firing squad, electric chair, lethal injection - what difference does it make? Dead is dead.

IDK. THe death penalty is a joke and doesn't work as a deterrent. I also like how you get that alcohol swab before you get the injection. Stick the bastard in jail for the rest of his life it is a much worse offense.
