My housing complex is now testing carpets with a blacklight to test for animal "accidents". Is there any way to clean the carptes good enough to pass the test?

I've been doing this in my rentals for years because tenants swear their pets didn't have an accident. You can use Nature's Miracle, Capture or Urine Out to pass the blackligt test. Nature's Miracle and Capture both come in a container large enough to use in a carpet cleaning machine if you are not sure where there may be an accident. I do it in my own home too. I mark the vomit or accident spots on the wall with painter's tape before treatment and check afterward. Both products, if soaked through to the padding, remove the blacklight activating enzymes. Capture is available at the home improvement centers and Natures Miracle is at pet stores and some discounters.

The odor soaked throught the carpeting and into the padding. This will definitely get rid of the odor and any signs of pet messes.
1. Make sure any urine left in the carpet is removed by standing on an absorbent cloth., paper towel, etc. to absorb as much as the liquid as possible.
2. You have to go to your pet store and get an enzyme product. There are a lot to choose from but I think the best ones are Outright Pet Odor Eliminator by Bramton and Nature's Miracle if Outright isn't available. Read the directions on the product carefully, following them exactly. Don't be afraid to saturate the carpet, the urine goes deeply through the carpet back and through the carpet pad, so the enzyme treatment needs to soak just as deeply. The urine stains go deep and spread so make sure you cover the circumfrance of the stain completely.
3. Cover the treated area with a plastic garbage bag or a dry cleaner's bag. If there is any lettering on the bag do not let it touch the carpet or it will transfer to the carpet. Weight the plastic down with something heavy- the idea in this step is to keep the enzyme from drying out until it can do it's job, which is digesting the protein in the urine and feces. Leave the plastic in place for at least 24 hours but preferrably 48 hours. Do not take the plastic off at all until the 24-48 hours are up. 4. Uncover the area and allow it to dry thoroughly. This may take a week - 10 days, depending on how deeply you treated the spot. You can let a fan blow on the carpet to help it dry faster. Once the area is completely dry (it must be completely dry) check for odor. If there is still an odor re-treat as directed above.
5. If the odor is gone , clean the area with a good-quality carpet spotter that specializes in pet stains. I like Spot Shot Instant Carpet Stain Remover. Not only will this method get rid of the odor completely for you but even the animal himself won't be able to smell it to want to resoil there again and your lanlord won't have a clue to what's going on in your apartment. Good luck!

Go to HSN.com and enter the words "urine-off".
They have several products, and 2 include a blacklight,
so you can check yourself. About 24.95 plus tax and shipping.

Check this website out.......... the product is a bit expensive but they send you a blacklight with it so you can test it yourself before your landlords do!
Hope this helps!

Urine Gone comes with it's own light. It cost about $20, and you can get it at Walmart, or mail order.
