General and special relativity theories are what he is famous for, but interestingly enough in 1921 Einstein received the Nobel Prize in physics for his description of the photoelectric effect.
General relativity is a theory of gravity and gravity effects on time.
Special realtivity describes the motion of particles moving at close to the speed of light.
The photoelectric effect describes how electrons are ejected from a metal plate when light falls on it.
