The primary British bomber at the beginning of the war was the Wellington MK I bomber. I've included a link about it, with a picture.

Two other bombers were used also, the Halifax MK I, and the Avro Lancaster. Links are also included to those two aircraft.

Britians bombed Germany during the night, and the Americans during the day to avoid confusion and friendly fire incidents.
