fear is a reaction that is tied to our body sensing immediate danger, memory can actually get in the way

By definition, a phobia is an irrational fear. If you have a good reason to be afraid of something, it's NOT a phobia. If you have no good reason - not even a bad memory - then you do.

Phobias may actually be one of the most common forms of mental illness. As many as 18% of the general population has one. If you're one of them, you're certainly not alone!

Arguably fear itself has a certain biochemical and instinctive nature, such that you might be made afraid by outside interference or stimuli that prompt such a response without it being a learned one. Again, with no memory necessary.

No, fear is not naturally instilled in an individual; one must be first exposed to an object before one can fear that object. We have the potential to be afraid but we don't know what to be afraid of unless is we get first or second hand experience.

yes, we are naturally born with fears...fear of falling, fear of loud noises...there's one more I think, but I can't remember it. all other fears are learned fears so there is some memory of something, even if it is learned from someone else without experiencing it ourself. with the natural born fears, there's no memory of anything but we are afraid of it.

You have basic instincts that you are born with. If a sudden gust of wind catches you in the face, you'll immediately shut your eyes and hold your breath. When you can't breathe, you get scared. All that and you don't even know what hit you. - known as the fight or flight response.

Nope, that you can't recall means the memory WAS there and it left an impression. You can't recall because the memory is not there anymore, only the impression is. So, this impression is your memory, it's there, even if you cannot remember it...lol
