For you answer, I suggest you visit the Yahoo Answers for "Political Correctness". Bush didn't decide on a long and protracted war; somehow our nation has decided that we would rather take more time and as a consequence more casualties than to look like we are conquerers, or adversaries to other interested parties.
This isn't the first time we have done this, so don't be short-sighted in blaming Bush. We did the same thing in WWII when we hit the beaches at Normandy instead of going "up the gut" via the Mediterranean and cutting off the Soviets in the process. That decision led to a 40 year cold war. We decided not to offend the Chinese in Korea, and have been guarding the DMZ ever since. We could have wiped Vietnam off the map, but again some folks might have been offended so we took 50,000 casualties instead. This is just history repeating itself.
The reason that the British Empire lasted for nearly a millennium is because when they went to war they didn't pack soccer balls in order to win hearts and minds of the conquered. Until we are prepared as a nation to make war and deal with the fact that the enemy is going to sustain a large number of casualties this is just going to keep happening.

He has been wrongly termed 'Warrior'! He does not seem to know much or anything about the repercussions of starting a war blindly based on false pretexts! There is no big win or small win but destruction of material and human resources in any war! Iraq and Afghanistan wars are no exceptions and need no elaboration!

Do you know *anything* about the enemy?
Consider where they are, what they do.
Tell us...will you take over the entire Middle East, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan? Because that is where they are.
How exactly would you acheive this "big win" over an enemy whose tactics are hide, then strike with terrorism?
Bush did not choose to drag things out, the enemy has been doing that for decades, and we let them.

The longer we are there, the longer we get free oil. That's why.
We're going to be there a long, long time. (Until Iraq has no oil left).
Also, defense and related industries have made a trillion dollars more than they would have without the war, in the past 4 years.

We didn't have enough troops to do it right, but he decided to do it anyway.
And of course, because his administration was full of incompetent morons like paul wolfowitz who didn't know jack about the middle east or iraq.

i am sure the generals had alot to do with that. plus, if after we ousted saddam the iraqi people didn't start a bloodbath free-for-all we would have been out in a year. you can't blame anybody for that except those entities.
