The Republic of South Africa - It used to be a colony ruled by the English up until the 1948 elections in which the Afrikaaner National Party were elected and implemented apartheid (a dark day);thus, SA broke away from the Commonwealth and installed a president instead.
After apartheid was dismantled and Nelson Mandela was elected in 1994, SA was apparently allowed to re-join the Commonwealth despite still having a president today, I think it was more of a symbolic gesture than anything else. So there you go, South Africa remains a republic to this day, although when I hear it being called RSA it just reminds me of the bad old days!!!

South Africa is officially known as the Republic of South Africa. So the abbreviation RSA and not SA. Its South African Pride for them cause they got their independence some years back ago, like 90's. They got republic and have a democracy in their country now and that's what they want to represent from their country. That's why they write " RSA " that's means Republic of South Africa as writing this they are giving respect to their country. If they just write SA, what respect would the country get for what hell they have been through, they want to show the whole world that South Africa is not a slave country, they are free people and republic now. that's why they use "RSA" in their T-Shirt or anywhere, its their national representation.

The Republic of South Africa as they have a President rather than as a Part of the Commonwealth of Nations with the Queen as head of state. As the Cape Colony which became South Africa after the Boer and Zulu wars was a colony of the British Crown.
