I agree. I'm proudly, unashamedly cheap. I only have foundation because it was free. Last September or October Walgreens (the drugstore chain) offered a Revlon compact (I don't know the name, just that it's the creamy pressed powder stuff) free after rebate. Had they not had that, I would not have gotten it. A couple of weeks ago, they offered Almay lipstick free after rebate. Well, the rebate is for $5.99 and it was on sale for $5.99. So once I send in my receipt and rebate form, and get the money back, it will be free. (They're also offering a toothbrush free after rebate, which I might get since my toothbrush is due to be retired and it's been a very long time since I've paid for one, so why start now?) I only wear makeup on specaial occasions and when my face is red from soap reaction, if I'm going out, that is.
Heck, thanks to on-line freebies I have also gotten most of my razors free (excpet for a four pack of Shcick three bladed that was no more than $1 after sale price and coupon at the grocery or drug store). My shave gel is also free, thanks to sale price and double coupon. (The can I'm using now I got at the end of last summer, so I probably only used a few times. I don't shave in winter. This spring, I also got a can of shave gel, with the bonus 33% free after double coupon and sale price.) Even in summer, I only shave a few times a week. I don't "need" to do it any more and this way, my stuff lasts.
I do everything within my power to NOT tan. Health is beauty and sun damage is not beautiful. With my pregnancy, I'm going to buy higher SPF sunscreen and even wear lightweight longsleeved Tshirts outdoors.
I don't have much talent sewing. I'm doing good if I sew a button and it stays on. (The last time I did it, forgot to knot the thread and it got loose again. It's waiting to be mended.) However, I refuse to spend any more money than necessary. Also, I keep clothes for as long as possible. The long sleeved blue Tshirt I'm wearing now I got for under $10 about ten years ago at a Gap/Old Navy/Banana Republic outlet for a waitressing job that didn't last. The kahaki shorts I'm wearing I got half off at Lane Bryant about five years ago. I lost weight so the shorts were too big for a few years. However, I deliberately saved them because I figured that I would want them for pregnancy someday or that I would gain weight again. They're low cut and still a bit loose so they're working great for my baby bulge.
Overall, though, I try to go second hand with my clothing and everything else. I only buy clothing when I literally need it. Like now, with having to buy maternity clothing, at least pants, skirts and shorts, becasue I still fit into most of my shirts. I give an extended life to something already in existance. I support a good charity/organization (if I buy from a thrift store, or even at a church rummage sale), and I'm not giving my money to questionable practices, like deplorable factories in developing countries.
I only get my hair cut about once a year. Having straight hair, one length, helps with that. I got it done free last fall, becasue a local salon sent us a "welcome to the neighborhood" coupon. I didn't get it cut as short as what I would have liked because my husband and I were planning to go with our church for a relief/mission trip to Southern Louisiana and I knew I would want to ponytail my hair. Fortunately, a local salon chan is offering a six or seven dollar hair cut special. Yay.
I just don't understand why people overspend on dribble.

lemon juice in hair and peroxide is the same thing as 10 volume for ur own highlights u can pain them on with paintbrush and sit in the sun
baking soda and peroxide whiten teeth
vaseline is ur new eye cream
baby oil is a great face moisturizer followed by hot compress

I do everything myself, but I do go to the hair salon about twice a year just to keep my hair looking halfway decent other then that I cut my hair myself. I tan outside as well. I don't make my own clothes but i would certainly like too!

YOU ARE NOT CHEAP! YOU ARE SENSIBLE!
Why pay for what you can do yourself, unless you have such a schedule that leaves you absolutely no time on your hands.
I was raised by a mother who sewed everything - even bed linen and her own curtains. And let me tell you, we did not even know the neighbours were judging who had the best looking home. We won! Always!
Child, as long as you have a talent, you are expected to exercise it to its fullest. Don't belittle yourself by saying you're cheap and don't let anyone else say so either.
Use that money you would have been paying out for other things. I never pay for anything I am gifted to do. It is my God-given right.
Don't you just enjoy knowing you are able?

It really depends on what skills you have and your time line. It also depends on if by "do it yourself" you're including help from friends and/or family. Finally it also depends on whether you are willing to "work your own wedding" or if you'd rather feel like the "guest of honor" at the event. I've had clients that needed help picking out practically everything provided by wedding vendors and did virtually nothing themselves, all the way to clients who hand made absolutely everything involved and even took their own wedding photos. I've also had plenty of clients who did some things themselves and used vendors for others. It really boils down to what you really want to do and have the talent to pull off.

i don`t do my own nails, i prefer to go to the salon, as in my opinion it just looks better...i do cut, color & dye my own hair, because i`ve had cosmetology training & know what i`m doing...i tan at a salon, however, because i do it year-round & that`s not possible to do outside in the dead of winter!!! i prefer to buy my clothes, but sometimes i shop at thrift stores & yard sales, & then customize what i buy to my own taste...but i don`t really care about the price of things...i spend what i want to look nice...i work for it, so if i want to spend it, i do!!!

i'm the same way. i think its rediculous to pay someone to do something that with a bit of practice you could get just as good at doing. not to mention tanning salons are 50 times more horrible for your skin (skin cancer wise) then sitting out in the REAL sun.
