At times I find myself falling asleep in the middle of a chapter in my books. Or I tend to try to do other things when I know I shoudl be reading the next chapter for class. I text books are interesting. But how do I stay awake and still get the knowledge I need.

Get yourself on a schedule and budget your time. Just like you have a class schedule for your courses, make one for your studies. Allow adequate time for sleeping and meals, and stick to your schedule. Don't allow yourself to be distracted, try studying at the library, and in a private study room if one is available. It is quiet there and limited opportunities to be distracted. Hope this helps. Good luck to you.

Caffiene for staying awake- drink coffe, black tea, some sodas, or take it in pills. Your doctor might prescribe something to keep you concetrated. Try putting yoursefl in a non-distracting environment. Some people can listen to music while they read, but it doesn't work for me... Also, if you don't have to read and you don't want to, don't. Find a different way to learn what it is you're reading. Try websites or search for tv shows

sounds like you are on hyper mode. Are you stressed out? Are you getting enough exercise? Sometimes, doing exercises, like jumping jacks, before class can put your left brain functions (concentrations) into high gear.

Try listening to Mozart also, I've heard that certain types of music, particularly his, can create clarified mental function.
