Not really. To not start a fight or retaliate is not cowardice at all. It really depends on what cowardice is to you. Sometimes giving the other cheek can be a sign of humility.

I wouldn't say THAT necessarily, but what's sometimes seen as cowardice is actually moral strength. For example, if a person has to go to prison for being a conscientious objector, that takes integrity and strength to make a stand like that. Or if a person has decided to wait until marriage to have sexual relations, it takes courage to go against their peer's standards.

The school systems to me definitely do... now it is all about telling the children to 'tattle' that is not going to work in the real world. We teach our son to stand up for himself. We don't want him 'bulling' but we don't want him 'tattling' on silly pit tally stuff either. Needless to say I get a call from the school at least once a week for dumb things! They definitely seem to be encouraging cowardice to me...

I believe we are encourage to be more complacent vs. cowardly. You can be a coward to yourself by not standing up for yourself -- but in society we show a lack of indifference for everything and anything. People will walk by others being robbed, abused, hurt -- this includes children. That, to me, is the danger in our society.

Yes I certainly do agree. It's teaching us NOT to defend ourselves which is one of the biggest rights that we have.
