I think the most popular genre is POP
But I dont listen to pop, I like Rock

As a DJ, I have found the most popular music is hip hop, cheesy techno, and believe it or not, the 80s are making a come back. I can rock "Don't Stop Believing" at every club I spin at.

Personally I listen to Rock/Alternative, but i think the most popular genre of music would probably be R&B/Hip-hop/Urban and possibily even Rap...

Rap and country sell the very most. Its understandable... Without being offensive I would like to state that both genres appeal to the most people by following specific song patterns, and using song subjects that appeal to the lowest common denominator. Making them both highly marketable to the specific demographic.

If you consider the population of China, then I would say Chinese music. India's population is approaching one billion, and I know for a fact that they mostly listen to Bollywood music. They have no choice, it's just played everywhere in India.

the most popular is Pop music. hence the name.
i don't like pop music. i grew up on grunge so i still like alternative rock. i listen to a lot of chilled out jazzy techno downbeat fusion kind of stuff, like Thievery Corporation.
