SRS light came on few days after rear collision. Because of the impact I had to replace rear bumper cover, tail lights and tinker other parts around the boot.

Can the SRS light be because of this collision? If so how do I prove that to insurance. Accident happened 4 months back and at that time the mechanica who did the repair said it can not be because of rear collision.

Now honda dealer says it is because of accident. Will the dealer give me any documentation to make claim against that accident?

Thanks in advance.

Actually mechanic did reset it. but it came back on. Then he told me that the code is 13B (or 14B I dont remember correctly.) and it is covered under warranty and asked me to see dealer.

If the dealer has done a diagnosis on the system they will have retrieved a fault code that identifies the cause of the failure. That fault code would lead them down a diagnostic path to determine the cause of the problem. The cause of the problem that is causing the SRS light to illuminate may or may not be accident related.

if the fault code is for the deployment of a seat belt tensioner the problem is definitely accident related. If it is for an impact sensor, no question that it is accident related. if it is for anything else, then they would have to determine if it is or is not accident related.

There are two courses of action that I would recommend. First, if you believe it to be accident related, contact your insurance company. They are the final arbitor as to whether it should be covered as a result of the accident or not. they have the experts to discuss the issues with the dealer to make the determination of liability.

the second course is to get a detailed statement from the dealer that includes the fault code, diagnostics and specific reasons that they believe the failure to be accident related. if you're paying for the diagnosis, they owe you an explanation of the work that you're paying for and you're entitled to that explanation in writing. I'm sure the dealer will provide you with that information if your paying for it. If you're not paying for the diagnosis, you have no contract with the dealer and they have no obligation to provide the information to you.

I'd start with the insurance company and if necessary pay the dealer for their time to diagnose and document the conditon if you believe it to be an accident related issue.

hope that answers your questions

Hmmm... I have the 97 Accord Ex and to my knowledge, the SRS light is the visual feedback sensor from your airbag system. Essentially, it is supposed to come on when you start the car, remain on for 6 - 8 seconds then go off when your airbag system is primed. If your sensor light is not turning off, then you have one of two problems. Either a small electrical problem with the sensor (cost approx $50 to repair, non-critical, takes about 1 hour to check & fix) or the much more costly problem with your airbag system (which takes a Honda Certified Technician only and may cost up to $10,000.00 to replace your airbag system... which your insurance will tell you to replace the car then as it cannot be insured without your airbag system...) It is actually not a recall issue, as there was no defect with the model for that year or an other when it had an airbag system installed. Best suggestion, take it to your personal mechanic (preferably one that does not work for Honda directly) and have them look at the sensor system/electrics. If he/she can find the fault, it's a quick fix and you are done. If not, contact Honda and tell them there is a problem with your airbag system. Then you will have to tell them to replace your airbag system, or replace the car. You will then have a long wait and several more calls (over a 3 - 6 month period) and take the time to track down the manager responsible for dealing with safety issues (don't bother with the dealership, they can't/won't do anything) for which country you are in. Make an appointment to see only that person, and do not let someone else deal with you. Talk to this person, tell them the problem, tell them you want a simple solution, replace your airbag safety system, or replace the whole car.

The SRS or Supplemental Restraint System light comes on when there is a malfunction in the vehicle's airbag deployment system. When this light comes on it means there is a malfunction in the airbag system, now this means that the airbags will not deploy in the event of an accident. If you can have the dealer document the evidence that made them come to this conclusion on the repair order, and take it back to the facility that made the repairs for the accident they should have some sort of warranty on there, so find out what it is and get in there before it expires, because once the warranty (if there is one) expires than your really S.O.L

Actually the SRS is a special feature that Honda installed on there cars. When the cars hits a certian millage the SRS light comes on, and it means "Still Really Sucky"! No joke, Honda though that there car owners should know the truth about there crappy cars after a while, so this is how they did it. So yea, congratulations; YOU OWN A PILE OF JAPANESE CRAP!!!!
