I went to UAB, that is, the University of Alabama at Birmingham. While it is a sprawling, urban campus, the only time I was concerned for my safety was trying to cross the street. I can say, though, that since I left, the campus has become much more pedestrian friendly.

Head to the Southside, Joe. We'd love to turn you into a Blazer.

I'm not sure about the safest but definitely any learning facility in Iraq is by far the most dangerous.

honestly, it is not the universities security, but the state of mind of the people enrolled and that of the local residents.
i don't think anything can be done that isn't already being attempted, in this most recent case, it looks like every opportunity was taken to include that individual with his peers, but still it was his own fragile mental state that made him do this. what are you going to do? put metal detectors, barbed wire and armed guards in every university?? i don't think that would do anything for positive mental states and would seriously limit free thinking and peoples desire to learn and advance which is the entire point of these institutions of learning in the first place.

it's very sad but these things happen, there are just going to be people with these ideas in their heads and some of them are going to act out. the only thing that can be done about it is to grieve, and treat everyone we meet with the respect and dignity that we ourselves would want to receive.

First of all, "Congratulations", on making it that far. Secondly, there really is no such thing. Where ever there are large groups of people, you will always have the risk. Just pray and ask GOD for guidance. I will pray for you, as well. Good Luck!
