Barry Zito hands down and here are his stats over the past four years to prove it. Mediocre at best.
2003 * 14 - 12
2004 * 11 - 11
2005 * 14 - 13
2006 * 16 - 10
With an era around 4.00.

To debunk the previous answers I just saw, Prior isn't overrated because he isn't exactly rated and Soriano is an offensive force. There aren't exactly a lot of 40-40 guys left in the game. Everybody knows his shortcomings, he can't field and he strikes out too much.
I would suggest Barry Zito. This offseason they guy is talked about like the second coming of christ who now throws an amazing curve. If you look at it he's pretty good, but if you take out 2001 and 2002 he's a .500 pitcher and with an ERA close to 4. He's respectable, but he kind of looks more like a #2 starter than a $18 mil. man.
A-Rod, really? You guys are nuts. He is one of the most, posibly the most prolific hitter to ever play the game. Yeah, A-Rod is sooooo overrated that in perhaps his worst season in his career he hit .280 with 35 home runs and 120 rbis, oh yeah and when his career is over he'll probably be the home run king. Man, that guy is all hype.

How can anybody be saying A-Rod right now? He's got 14 homers, 34 RBI's, and a couple of game winning walk off jobs.... How is that overrated?
I think Brandon Webb of the D-Backs is overrated... there is just no way, in my mind, that he should have beat out Roy Oswalt for the Cy Young. I would like to see the two go head to head in a game.

I got the right answer for sure here. It is Scott Rolen. He makes alot of good plays at third but he botches alot of routine ones. He is an average hitter at best (for godsake he is surrounded with pujols, edmonds, larry walker, etc. etc.) He is always injured or sick. He is the biggest pussy i have ever seen. I am from st. louis and i am a card fan. I have no real problem with rolen being the cards third baseman because there is not alot of good third basemen out there. My problem is him winning the gold gloves and the all star appearances and the big money contracts. He deserves none of those. He is lucky to be in the league. If he played anywhere but third he would be lucky to crack a starting lineup little on going to allstar games.

to respond to the question : - participant gets too plenty hype via the media - would not carry out at human beings's expectancies - participant isn't snatch - good stats, not a good or a great participant - Get fat enormous contracts & salaries - good finding, or enormous or their seems - performs for a commonplace team, for ex.) Yankees, pink Sox (particular), Tigers, Dodgers, and so on - There are different adult men greater helpful at his place yet gets voted in any respect-megastar video games each season overvalued gamers - A-ROD, Jeter, David Ortiz (this 365 days), KRod, Josh Beckett (hate to confess it yet he's this SEASON), Lugo, ANDRUW JONES ! there some greater yet they're the frontrunners this season for the reason which you asked approximately overvalued, might to boot upload some underrated gamers - Tim Lincecum, Dustin Pedrioa, Jason Bay (mutually as he grew to become into with the Pirates), Brian Robers, Nate McLouth, Christian Guzman? There are greater different underrated gamers who performs for a small industry team.

Carlos Zambrano. This guy has good stuff. But he never really has put up THAT great of numbers. He is a hothead how walk a lot, and has hit way too many batters with his lack of control. Look at his numbers this year. They are not that good. More hits than innings - high walks - an ERA over 6 - and only one win. All this from the guy who promised us he would win the Cy Young award.

A-Rod,everyone is in love with him now but as soon as he goes into his usual slump it will be another year about how he was a mistake for the Yankees. He is junk every post season, anyone making the money he makes should be a lock as a post season hero not a post season flop. He is on a tear now but at the end of the year it will be the same old A-Rod bashing in NY. Look at the past few seasons in NY and it is proof he is overrated, dont just look at the first 20 games of this year look at his whole career.

Derek Jeter. Going to the hall of fame, but not the greatest at anything. Jose Reyes, and Jimmie Rollins will be better career shortstops in the end. Its sad how Jeter gets more credit than Cal Jr. too.

it's not arod. i'm sorry. he hasn't had the greatest playoff success but that happens. cal ripken was never that good in playoff games either. arod has a long career ahead of him. he has a lot of records to break and a lot of championships to win. hopefully just not with the yanks.
as for who the real overrated player is.....................a lot of guys are.
the biggest disappointments..1. kerry wood. fastest pitcher to get 1000 ks and that's with missing a season for surgury. he hasn't done anything since.
2. mark prior. what happened to this guy? he just ran out of steam.
