I understand a few vets might have fallen through the cracks(sadly). But for the most part they have done a good job by me.

I am a 100% disabeled Veteran from World War II and the Veterans Administration have taken excellent care of me. You can not satisfy everyone. Be thankful we live in such a wonderful country.

Certainly I was taken care of in service. I did not take advantage of the education as I had my degree before I went in. My wife did use a VA hospital a few times and was happy with the experience. She was also a VA rep in Illinois for 7 years. The problem was never with the care. It was the paperwork and the misinformation that was the struggle. It may take months to get things through. It was also the people who gave up trying to help. I think (in reading the accounts) that is what happened at Walter Reed. It was not the care or the medical staff, it was the paperwork, lack of funding, and the lack of help from the administrative side of the hospital.

I am not threatened by the fact that you were treated well. However, that is not proof that all vets are treated well, and there are well documented stories about mistreatment of disabled vets and poor treatment of injured veterans that you seem to dismiss out of hand because you're "OK". Did you miss the story on Walter Read. Why did veterans hold a rally last year protesting mistreatment?
It certainly seems to me there has been some mistreatment of veterans. I am not sure of the extent . But you a mistaken to think that because you are OK that all veterans are OK. That is nothing but anecdotal evidence.

I as well had a positive experience with the military. I just got out of active service a few months ago. However, just like anything in life that you have had a good experience with, you absolutely should not discount that others have not had the good experience you had. Just like any other organization that is as large as the US military there are people they "fall through the cracks" so to speak and do not get the compensation or attention that they need. However, speaking for myself, I would absolutely do it again.

First of all, thank you for serving our country. And I am glad you have been well taken care of. I wish that were true for all.
I don't know what percentage of verterans are happy with how the country has treated treated them but I wonder if this is the best forum for finding out. I mean, the ones who have been treated the worst are probably the least likely to have a computer and internet access, right?

My question was not to point fingers and say that people aren't taken care of.. lifers like yourself are well taken care of.. but those that served and left aren't as taken care of as you are... My uncle is a retired Major.. he does very well for himself.. my dad was drafted for Vietnam... and gets practically nothing from that.. he does very well for himself because he made a life for himself after he got back... but those types of people.. that served and returned to normal life.. they put their lives on the line when the nation called for them... and were forgotten after the fact...

Same here.
You know and I know the "homeless vet" very likely is not a veteran.
It's a strawman, or somebody really is simple enough to believe that "Veteran, homeless, hungry" sign he's holding.
