Well, it started with a barter system... if you needed something from your neighbor (like he was a blacksmith and you needed something built or repaired with metal).. you would offer him something you had or could do. But money is WAY easier to carry around in your pocket than a spare chicken..... think about it... :-)

Well, good for you, it seems like you and your friends are on your way to discovering the meaning of true happiness. Unfortunately, though, money is a necessary evil, primarily because our social structure pretty much guarantees a lifetime of hardship, struggle, and turmoil for the have-nots, just as it allows for a lifetime of carefree, reckless abandon for the haves. Does this mean that those who have money are hap-hap-happy all the time? Absolutely not! They are some of the most miserable people I've ever met- many of them don't have to work to support themselves so they get into trouble with drugs or alcohol, or they just fall into a depression because they feel worthless. Do you think Paris Hilton's happy? I don't! But if she crashes her car (as she sometimes does), she doesn't have to stress about where she's going to get the money to pay for it, and she definitely won't ever have to bum rides off a friend or ride the bus while it's being fixed, so there's some solace in that, I would imagine. Then I know some poor people (like me!!!) who are truly happy. I make less than $30,000 a year, and that's after working 2 jobs, but I still consider myself extremely blessed and fortunate because I have a wonderful boyfriend, a great family, a fantastic dog, and good friends.

It is not the buying for yourself that will change you. Money is required for survival. However it is what you choose to do with any money you have after you pay your bills that make a difference.

There is no way society as it is now can exist without money to keep people honest. Think about it, if no one had to pay for anything and you just trusted people to return the favor in a service or product they produce, many kind people would be taken advantage of to ruin and many corrupt people would be living higher on the hog than they already are.

Get involved in recycling, educating people about the enviroment, and even saving animals, the rainforest or any other cause you feel strongly about. Buy only what you need don't spend money on things that would contribute to the pollution we already have.

Money is not the evil, it is how people choose to use it that is the problem.

If you don't have money you're going to be screwed. You won't be able to afford a family. So suck it up.
