It maybe SHOULDNT be but smelling bad is for sure a key to failure in advancement!
How often do you recall someone after they left and say to a friend "They smelled GOOD!" or like wise "They smelled like poop!"
Just remember scent it tied to memory... How do you want to be remembered when you leave the room?

I think the opposite is true. If you smell nice or if you lack a noticeable smell then no one really cares. However if you smell like old gym clothes or some swamp creature then that is a personal success turn-off.

What should and should not be is not the point, the point is "what is" that matters. In random smell tests people had very strong reactions to odor. People who were normal liked normal smelling people, and gay people liked the smell of other gay people in blind tests. If that extreme is true then if you don't bathe and are "smelly" people will react the way they are pre-conditioned to do genetically and that is to reject you. You don't have to use perfumes as that can be turn off all by itself. Just a clean body will be enough.

Surely that ought to be a prerequiste full stop not just success. Though I know what you mean, some one who smells awful is very off putting for people.
Could you imgaine what would happen if Alan Sugar or Richard Branson...smelt anything other than pleasant. Though I do Know that Tony Blair is reknowned for his smelly breathe and bad teeth. So it has not hindered his progress through life.
Oh uck!

Definitely...I always smell nice...it's important b/c when you work w/people as closely as I do (I'm a banker) it's important to have good hygiene and it's nice to add a little perfume just to let people know you care a bout your job and your self...

It can sure be a pleasant way to start it anyway.
a Fresh clean scent is best, not over powerful flowery smell.

one of the associates at my office is very good at his job but the managing partner never sends him to meetings with important clients as he has terrible breath and bo.
no one has actually told me this it is just my assumption, but i think i am right as new associates start and are constantly in meetings with clients.
personal hygeine says alot about a person and being well groomed is always a winner in business.
