Ok i saw this show on HGTV , called Small spaces Big Idea , there was a girl who had a studio and in order to make more space she had this thing that looked like a huge cabinet with 2 doors when she opened it her bed came out . I LOVED this considering that i have a studio apt and it would be a space saver . i looked it up online but there are selling them for $900+ which is to expensive for my budget. Any ideas on how i would be able to build one , my husband is very handy and we would like to know if this is possible to build it looks pretty straight forward , we just need a plan or something ......... help

Yes, we almost bought one too. EXPENSIVE. Go back on the internet and look up "how to build a wall bed" something to that effect and you will find a plan. I found one but we didn't want to build it. Shows the springs and everything. We decided to just build loft beds. Good luck. They are very beautiful. I know exactly what you are looking at. Look like cabinets. Well, I wish you the best on trying to build it. We weren't that confident. Again, there is a place that shows the designs to it. Keep researching.

I have no blueprints but some suggestions.

Certainly a "Murphy" type bed is a great space saver,,,even if it protrudes from a wall, not recessed.

This suggestion isn't so deep as to think drawers into the equation, and it may take ingenuity on your part.

The fold away bed could be designed and attached in two ways. It either folds down lengthwise, offering a single side entry.... OR from the Head.

The substance and hardware can easily be determined in cruising aisles at HD and/or Lowes.

To add some level of storage space, and a pseudo piece of furniture, you can design into the underside,,,,shelving which would drop to the floor under the bed, when it's open, and become shelving when the bed is pushed back up to its storage location. Kind of like a Bookcase built into the underside of a bed in place.

Certainly aesthetics might be an issue, and your choice of material depends on budget, but as a DIY you can create a bed frame and support system from common lumber. You can also find Hinges and other basic hardware to add, as if the bed might be a door mounted Horizontally on a wall.

If you wanted to go into more detail you might be able to open up the adjacent wall and allow that the bed would rest inside the opening as far as safely possible, noting load bearing walls, etc.

My suggestion pretty much relates to a DIY platform bed, with modifications allowing to fold it up.

You can buy the mechanism for the murphy bed separately from the bed from murphy bed manufacturers, then build your own bed, cabinet, etc. Plans are also available online.
