Give tylenol an hour before the shots. Don't let them put band-aids on him--they hurt really bad when taking them off and the glue on them can burn tender skin. If he uses a paci, take one with you for him to suck while they give him the shots. Have the nurses hold him down so you can comfort him as soon as it's over. Rub the area a bit after the shots so lumps don't form under the skin.

Give him tylenol before they give him his shots. With my first daughter the pediatritions office did this, the idea is because all vaccines will give your baby at least a small fever and so it is used preventatively.

With both of my kids the holding of the limbs seemed to be more upsetting than the shots, however some of the shots do burn and sting afterwords. When they were very young, like your son, they seemed to sleep alot more, and slept deeper. Ask and insist that your pediatrition tell you in clear terms what the risks, and side effects of ALL the vaccines that they are giving him.

well i would ask the nurse if your baby weighs enough for motrin, they dont always say its ok for babies under 6 months to have it since their tummies are so sensitive. but you can give him tylenol though. and i would do it right before he goes in. the shot is going to hurt (only a little) no matter what, but the tylenol takes a few minutes to become effective and it will help with fever or aching or fussiness. and dont make any afternoon plans, so your baby can rest for the day if he feels like it. and dont worry, some babies seem absolutely unaffected by vaccinations. and congrats on your new baby.

I dislike the idea of medicating children unnecessarily, so I disagree with giving the baby tylenol before hand, but do make sure you have some on hand if he seems uncomfortable. Ask the nurse if there is any thing you should look out for.

He will be looking to you for comfort and reassurance, so keep talking to him in a calm voice and tell him it's okay.

Give him some Motrin or Tylenol before you go. Make sure that you take along some tissues for you. It is hard but the nurses will tell you what they need help with. When my kids would get their shots I would lay my upper body over them and talk to them. They are usually too distracted by mom to get too upset.

It still sucks but it's much easier than the 6 month shots. It was a lot harder to calm my son down, he was scared and he gave me this puppy dog face. It was horrible, I am dreading the 12 month shots.

I have to agree...he needs a dose of tylenol before he gets the shots, and every four to six hours after that, at least to get him comfortably through the rest of the day and night. Make sure you check with his pediatrician for correct dosage for his age/weight.

go and buy some infant Tylenol and give it to him every 6 hours starting right after he gets the shots. they will make him really grumpy. My little girls doctor told me this. Do this for about 3 days.

Love him, cuddle him. Let him sleep if he wants to. Boys usually get over it pretty quickly. Girls on the other hand...

When my oldest daughter got her 2 months shots, she grumbled and fussed at me for a week. The boys, they were all fine five minutes later.

Give him a small dose of children's Tylenol before going to the appt. Sometimes kids have a fever reaction to the vaccines, this will help with that.
