the valves are opened by a camshaft but are closed with air pressure instead of conventional springs, which reduces "valve bounce" which can occur at high RPM.

The valves are opened with a conventional camshaft.
However they are closed with pneumatic pressure, rather than the steel springs found in road car engines.
These allow the valves to close more quickly, enabling the engine to reach speeds of 18,000rpm.

instead of having springs to return the valves they use oil under pressure, hence the name HYDROLIC VALVES......
