i believe you are wrong
the asnwer is -12
you are given...
y/4 + 2 = -1
first you need to get rid of the 4 so you multiply the whole thing by 4
(y/4 + 2 = -1) 4
so the result will be...
y + 8 = -4
***now you transpose the 8 to the other side, thus changing the sign...
y = - 4 - 8
now, since you are subtracting a positive from a negative you add them both...
y = -4 + -8
thus making your answer y = -12
***or you can do it this way,
from the equation, y + 8 = -4
you subtract 8 from both sides
y + 8 - 8 = - 4 - 8
simplifying it will give you,
y = - 12

y/4=-1-2(taking the 2 to rhs changes the sines)
y/4 = -3(on adding -1, -2)
y = -12 (on multiplying -3 and 4, coz when the 3 comes up to the RHS it becomes a multiply)
u were wrong.....u need some serious studying....and by the way what are u doing now?

Substitute your answers into the original equation, and see if it checks.
Does 4/4 + 2 = -1 ?
Does 12/4 + 2 = -1 ?
Sorry, no.
Does it seem reasonable that you need a negative value of y?

y/4+2=-1
Multiply by 4 all parts
y+8=-4
y+8-8=-4-8
y=-12
you were close except it should be -12
-12/4+2=-1
-3+2=-1 correct
