And do you have a dream job, if this isn't it?

I'm finishing Uni in June and want to hear about all the normal, unusual, weird, fun, boring or wonderful jobs out there! Basically I need inspiration... and one of your jobs might inspire me!

After 10 yrs of Food Service I couldn't take it anymore. I do not have a college degree so I couldn't just pick a job. It was Christmas and I had just had a baby and had no job. Luckily I went to a friend and asked for a job. He said Christmas help only cause he couldn't afford to keep me on after that. I was relieved my kids could have a Christmas. Now, 2 1/2 yrs later I'm the 1st Assistant for Family Dollar and am training to get my own store. I would like to go all the way to the home office. My district manager and store manager thinks I'll make it. I took to retail and now there's a saying of why working Family Dollar is awsome. "It's not fast food and it's not Dollar General" :)

I'm a trained translator but here in Europe it's a tough field and I'm over 45--very hard to get work if you're over 30 these days.
So I tutor Eng Lit at the university level.
My dream job would be to be a nature photographer of the National Geographic type. Or a writer, but that isn't nearly as easy as it sounds.

Advice: if you can't get a dream job, create your own. I did. I tutor for peanuts but I'm happy.

Oh Emmie......

you want the truth.....office work is awful...
i work in Debt Collection and am currently off work with stress....the Finance industry is one of the worst careers around.

My dream job ?
i'd like to get into Horticulture / Gardening.....anything that would involve being outside planting up....growing things.
Unfortunately i have too many responsibilities to probably allow me to change career direction without getting into debt...hahahaha....least i'd know how to deal with it though i guess.

Just think long and hard about what you want to do, don't try and copy someone else - try finding your own career path - something that DEFINES you!
Write down everything you enjoy and everything you are good at & try and find something from that.

very best of luck.

I work for this public sector training provider - but I'm on the marketing/HR and admin side of it.

It's good and I learn a lot doing what I do - but I've been feeling a little restless myself - completely my concern and not related to work. I think I'm just in need of a change.

My unofficial title is Senior Office Pee-On. I do all the crap work in the office. Anything new that comes in that's too difficult for anyone else to handle comes directly to me. Because of that, I do the work of at least five people. Needless to say, I'm not too fond of my job.
