Daughter was driving the car ... car suddenly died...would not restart; had it towed home. Car will not turnover...., can I buy the device to plug into the computer to read any codes? I'd like to have some idea what the problem is before I have it towed to the repair shop; had head gaskets replaced one month ago....

WAIT, you can RENT the :OBDII from your local auto parts store... you can then test the system for a trouble code.

Rather than spend about $280.

sounds like a battery or alternator problem ..and yes you can buy a scanner for any make and model car just be sure to keep the books they dont do you any good at all if you dont know what each code is . may be just a loose wire on the alternator too...not charging the battery

If when you turn the key to start it, does the appropriate lights in the dash come on? if they do and the engine doesn't even start to roll over then try a differant battery. If the car rolls over then and starts I would think that your alternator has failed and you need a new one.

You probably need a new battery. Clean the battery cables real well before installing the new battery.
