Number one advantage is the physical exercise.
Number two advantage is learning to work with others.
Video games are a one-way communication activity. The fingers do all the work where the majority of interaction is between you and computer. Little human interaction is required.
Sports, on the other hand, is a way to develop your physical talents as well as sportsmanship, friendship, and team effort.
What have you accomplished after 3 hours of video games? Nothing much. A finger workout at the most.
What have you accomplished after 3 hours of sports play? Stronger muscles, greater endurance, more body coordination and the best reward of all, how to work and excel with others. Playing on a team helps a person to listen to authority (coach), follow rules, work together with friends, experience winning and losing as a team, and feeling the exhilaration of working as hard as you can to reach a goal.

Well, actually getting off your butt and playing real sports will provide you with exercise. You will also get to experience the physical part of the sport, i.e. feeling the excruciating pain of a hit in football, or actually applying a hit to someone else.
You get a sense of accomplishment that YOU physically performed the feat yourself, rather than tapping a couple of buttons.
In real life you can't just "pause" the game whenever you want.
In real sports, you will learn discipline to be able to perform at your best, rather than changing the "options" in a menu to fit your playing style.
In real sports you can't set the competition characteristics to a "sissy" level so you can dominate them. So you actually have to work to perform at your best to come out victorious.
In real sports, you have actual live cute cheerleaders to cheer you on and not some fake digital ones. LOL.

In contact sports you are getting exercise for your entire body...In video sports the exercise is in your hands. I personally think some of each is good .
In contact sports you learn social skills and how to communicate with each other.
In the videos you have a constant exercising of the mind....Not so good all the time for your Backside!
My 11 year old granddaughter has been playing soccer, ( city team & allstars) and basket ball since the age of 5. She has the camaraderie in real sports makes friends is able to travel with all stars, She plays video games in between .

You can learn from both. real sports you learn how to score get traning on what sports you do like soccer you can learn how to manuver the ball around your opponents in order to score. football you learn all sorts of things. same with all sports you get to work as a team and feel the power of victory. Video games you can learn to use different controls in orders to beat a game and you can do it as a team as well. You learn different strategies. But I would chose real sports vs. the video games its more rewarding

In real sports you get physical activity, you learn how to be part of a team, how to support your team, and sportsmanship. I would prefer my children play real sports as apposed to video games any day!
