I am not rich but i think you should enjoy your life whilst you can and i am a big believer of shrouds don't have pockets and as long as you are still nice and remember your manners then there is no problem buying a big house and a flashy car!

Don't think you are showing off your wealth, sounds like your worked hard to gain what you did, not often anyone is able to retire at 41 but time passes on and the more time you can enjoy life the better. I am a decade or so older, not too badly off but not rich and when like this you are a bit afraid to burst out too much. I have an inheritence coming, if I am spared one day but would never wish the lives of the people to die in order I could receive this. However, if I received this I certainly would enjoy it. Only think is I do feel a percentage of your wealth should be given to the underdogs in life. Home, charties, Third World etc. You could always give more but knowing you are in some way helpfing these people should make us all sleep easier at night and not feel guilty about enjoying what we are fortunate to have. Nor should we consider we have done anything great. If a person has 2 pennies and he gives one away he is giving 50% of all he has. Worth a thought!!!

I'm about your age. My only jewelry is a 15 year old dive watch that cost me $75. As far as pants, I only own levies. My fanciest shoes are 2 year old Italian climbing boots....which I wear most of the time, they look horrible now but fit like a glove. My nicest coat is a 20 year old leather bomber jacket. I found a place where I can get an $8 haircut.
I could go buy a $10K Rolex and get a $100 haircut and it wouldn't really dent my bank account, but that kind of thing just doesn't seem 'cool' to me. I look at a guy with an obviously very expensive watch, or a man who wears flashy jewelry and to me it just looks vulgar and pretentious.
On the other hand a nice house in a nice neighborhood, which I have, is just a better way to live if you can afford it. A new car, which I have, is less problems and you feel good with the clean newness. Vacations lift you above the rut of everyday living and give you new perspective.
People who show off their wealth, or pretended wealth make me sick. But not using your assets to live a better life is silly.

Its not good just to spend to impress someone else. I mean, whats the point? There will always be someone richer, prettier, or thinner. Unless of course you are Bill Gates, now HE has a house!
Its living in a way you enjoy, for yourself, not some mythical other. Keeping it a secret, well, thats a whole other kettle of fish, thats like a fear of being thougt above yourself, or of being the object of malicious jealousy.
Living in a way I like to live, thats the best way to go. I have an old car, I don't care much about cars so thats not where I spend my money. I do care about how my house looks, so I do spend my money there, and it suits me to a 't'. Its just what I want, not the most palatial, but I don't like palatial.
Its comfortable beautiful to look at and still a home, not a museum.
So thats what I do, I make my surroundings suit me, and hang the rest of the world.

Ultimately, I don't think it's wise to do so unless you have some tough bodyguards around you or within a second to none security systems. Thus, its wiser to look unwealthy and keep the wealth somewhere else. I remember our hosts in the UK warned us, some 23 trainees, not to bring out some cash to count among people anywhere, that's 1997.

I haven't got wealth to show off but I manage to look rich by wearing expensive clothes I bought years ago that I can't afford to buy now. I'm with the black Americans, eggman - it makes you feel good and no harm done.

I don't. We all hate a "show off" right? I've seen people who show off or brag about their wealth all the time and they really really turn me off. It's a sign of immaturity.
